This dress was created as a special commission for a customer’s friend in Scotland. I had previously crafted a similar 50's-inspired dress that had already sold, prompting this new request.

The tartan pattern from my original dress comes from repurposed pattern paper originally meant for curtains but it was limited. For the white dress, I fortunately found another tartan material (likely intended for a dress pattern), although there was even less of this one, so I had to be even more resourceful. But to incorporate authentic Scottish elements was essential.

My inspiration drew from Cyd Charisse in 'Brigadoon' - one of those classic films I adore. The sophisticated bodice features both delicate ruffles and precise pleats, reminiscent of a high-end cocktail dress, with decorative scissors that evoke the look of dressmaker pins. A full skirt completes the silhouette, incorporating some of the original pattern lines as design elements.

I'm particularly pleased with how this piece turned out and hope it brought as much joy to its recipient as it did to me in creating it.
